Tony Moly Shiny Foot Super Peeling Liquid

Ingredient Analysis
1. green tea – polyphenols ( Camellia Sinensis ) proven antioxidant, anti-inflammatory; can prevent collagen breakdown & reduce UV damage to skin. It is generally accepted that 5% green tea extract or polyphenols in the 90% range is an effective concentration in skincare products to produce these effects.
2. Hydrogenated Castor Oil. used as an oily base ingredient; with PEG it's a non-ionic surfactant and is used as a solubilizer for essential oils.
3. ginkgo biloba extract ( Ginkgo ) antioxidant with some anti-bacterial & anti-fungal effects; can reduce inflammation; no proven effects on cellulite
4. pomegranate extract ( Pomegranate ) astringent; strong antioxidant, anti-inflammatory & antiproliferative properties
5. honeysuckle extract ( Lonicera Japonica (Honeysuckle) Flower ) anti-inflammatory antioxident agent; often also used as a preservative
6. Portulaca Oleracea. may have anti-inflammatory or analgesic; humectant moisturizing properties
7. peony root extract ( Paeonia ) skin protecting antioxidant; a small amount of research indicates it may inhibit melanin production
8. beta hydroxy acid ( Salicylic Acid ) induces exfoliation in oily areas of skin; oil-soluble so can penetrate pores to exfoliate inside; prevents clogged pores; mildly anti-inflammatory; higher concentrations help fade post-acne marks
9. skullcap extract ( Skullcap Root Extract ) antioxidant, anti-inflammatory herbal extract; humectant moisturizer & soothing astringent
10. rosemary extract ( Rosemary ) antimicrobial antioxidant with a calming effect; but its fragrant components can cause irritation if present in large amounts. If listed at the end of the ingredient list, it's likely added in a small amount.
11. Charcoal Extract. Charcoal Extract is used in skincare and cosmetics as a/an opacifying aka makes the formula less clear, moisturizing ingredient.
12. Butylene Glycol. solvent; penetration enhancer; humectant moisturizer; in cleansing creams it dissolves dirt, avoids the product from drying too quickly during the removal stage & helps formulas spread better
13. Caprylyl Glycol. An alcohol, derived from a plant which is used as an emollient and coconut derived preservative.
14. Glycolic Acid. Proven to reduce fine lines & wrinkles; hyperpigmentation; smooths, exfoliates & thickens skin; increases skin hydration & elasticity; good melasma treatment
15. Disodium EDTA. preservative & product stabilizer; helps the topical penetration of active ingredients; chelating agent
16. acerola fruit ( Malpighia Glabra ) antioxidant; hydrating; said to enhance capillary strength, but the only studies I've found confirming this refer to ingestion, not topical application
17. Grape Extract. potent antioxidant with proven effects
18. macadamia nut ( Macadamia Ternifolia ) emollient oil similar in structure to sebum, said to be great for oily/mature/dry skins; the shell powder is used in abrasive scrubs

20. preservatives ( Phenoxyethanol ) Used as a preservative or enhances the efficacy of preservatives
21. apple extract ( Apple Fruit Extract ) The pectin is used as a thickener & emulsifier, apple extracts & oil are an antioxidant moisturizer
22. lemon extract ( Citrus Medica Limonum ) Lemon extract in skincare is a known skin sensitizer and irritant. It can have antibacterial properties but it’s incredibly irritating, as lemon juice has a pH of 2, which is very acidic and its use is linked with damage to your skin’s acid mantle. Lemon extract/juice/peel/oil does way more harm than good. Using lemon juice on your skin, or products containing lemon extract, lemon oil, lemon peel and even other citrus extracts and peel oils (like orange, mandarin, grapefruit, etc.) can cause brown discolorations and red rash looking irritation when you go out into the sun. This is a reaction known as phytophotodermatitis.
23. snail extract ( Snail Secretion Filtrate ) moisturizer; may help repair wounds. Snail allergies have cross-reactivity with dust mite allergies! Click for more info.
24. sage extract ( Salvia Officinalis (Sage) Leaf ) limited research proves sage oil/sage extract is anti-inflammatory & may be useful against reducing redness from irritation & sunburns. More research is needed as this ingredient contains both known anti-inflammatory components AND known irritating fragrance components
25. Amino Acids ( Arginine ) Widely used in moisturizers and emollients because they are thought to help penetrate the skin; have water-binding, antioxidant and wound-healing abilities
26. Lactic Acid. the most moisturizing of AHAs; whitening astringent; exfoliant
27. willow bark ( Salix Alba ) anti-inflammatory, though not a substitute for salicylic acid
28. Jojoba Oil. moisturizing skin-friendly oil (actually a wax) that limits oil production in skin; stimulates collagen; enhances skin's barrier repair properties & ability to heal from damage
29. Argan Oil. moisturizing emollient; anti-inflammatory skin-friendly oil
30. Vitamin E ( Tocopheryl ) Antioxidant emollient & occlusive moisturizer with proven effects: protects the epidermis from early stages of ultraviolet light damage; increases the efficacy of active sunscreen ingredients; reduces the formation of free radicals upon skin exposure to UVA rays and other sources of skin stress; reduces transepidermal water loss from skin and strengthens the skin's barrier function; protects the skin barrier's oil (lipid) balance during the cleansing process; reduces the severity of sunburn; preservative (if at the end of the list)
31. Fragrance. Fragrance in skin care is like spraying perfume on your face. Smells nice, but potentially irritating and damaging to your skin's acid mantle. Especially if these ingredients are high up on the ingredient list.
32. solvents ( Water ) solvent
33. alcohols ( Denatured Alcohol ) antiseptic solvent; dissolves oil; can be irritating & drying; sometimes used as a preservative
34. Glycerin. A humectant moisturizer; usually used as a base in (light) moisturizers
35. Lavender. Mainly used for aromatherapy than skincare; mild antimicrobial/anti-inflammatory effects make it useful as part of a preservative system in a product; fragrance components oxidize on skin & can cause irritation
36. mandarin ( Citrus Aurantium Dulcis ) fragrant skin irritant; no topical benefits
37. menthol ( Peppermint ) Anti-bacterial astringent; fragrance; that cooling feeling is your skin being irritated. Used as a denaturating and deodorizing solution.
38. Betaine. a humectant moisturizer; can enhance the texture and height of foam
39. algae ( Sargassum Fulvellum ) marine compounds are emollient antioxidants; some claim to brighten skin; some are simply skin conditioners, known to be highly comedogenic, thickeners/emulsifiers in a product
40. Urea. Humectant moisturizer; improves penetration of other ingredients; minimizes water loss; speeds up skin renewal; adjusts pH of a product. If you're in the UK and looking for urea products, check the ingredient list for "carbamide" instead. It's the same thing.
41. PEGs ( PEG- ) helps "carry" other ingredients into the skin; emollient; emulsifier; sufactant (cleans); solvent; the lower the number following, the more it can penetrate the skin; keeps products stable
42. peach ( Prunus Persica ) Used as a natural flavoring and emollient. Peach kernel oil is a light, similar to Almond & apricot kernel oil, it's high in linoleic and oleic acids,
43. Aloe. emollient moisturizer with anti-inflammatory; antioxidant, & antibacterial qualities
