Avene Soothing Moisture Mask

Ingredient Analysis
1. Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride. Coconut derived emollient moisturizer, sometimes used as a thickener. Rich in fatty acids that replenish skin; has a silky, dry oil feel. Liquid oil at room temperature.
2. Propylene Glycol. solvent; humectant; gives a product "slip"; helps "carry" other ingredients into the skin; also enhances the efficacy of preservatives; controls viscosity
3. PEG-100 Stearate. a moisturizing emollient & emulsifier
4. Triethanolamine. Triethanolamine is used in skincare and cosmetics as a/an pH buffering, emulsifying, that masks the scent of other ingredients in a formula aka masking, cleansing surfactant ingredient.
5. safflower oil ( Carthamus Tinctorius ) an emollient oil high in primarily linolenic acid (omega 3); great for dry skins
6. preservatives ( Butylparaben ) Used as a preservative or enhances the efficacy of preservatives
7. Disodium EDTA. preservative & product stabilizer; helps the topical penetration of active ingredients; chelating agent
8. stearic acid ( Steric Acid ) emulsifier; cleaning agent; stabilizes emulsions; lipophilic thickener; texturizer. Stearic acid is naturally found in skin and is used in cleansers to reduce cleansing-induced damage, aid in moisturization, and replenish with skin-natural lipids.
9. Mineral Oil. An oil with occlusive properties (baby oil), paraffin, by itself, is a waxy petroleum-based thickener
10. petrolatum ( Microcrystalline Wax ) An occlusive protective moisturizer; great when used to seal in a humectant moisturizer
11. Fragrance. Fragrance in skin care is like spraying perfume on your face. Smells nice, but potentially irritating and damaging to your skin's acid mantle. Especially if these ingredients are high up on the ingredient list.
12. solvents ( Water ) solvent
13. Carbomer. Carbomer is used in skincare and cosmetics as a/an emulsion stabilizing, gelling, viscosity controlling ingredient.
14. methicone. Methicone is used in skincare and cosmetics as a/an antistatic, emollient moisturizing ingredient.
15. PEGs ( PEG- ) helps "carry" other ingredients into the skin; emollient; emulsifier; sufactant (cleans); solvent; the lower the number following, the more it can penetrate the skin; keeps products stable
