Ingredient Analysis
1. Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride. Coconut derived emollient moisturizer, sometimes used as a thickener. Rich in fatty acids that replenish skin; has a silky, dry oil feel. Liquid oil at room temperature.
2. green tea – polyphenols ( Camellia Sinensis ) proven antioxidant, anti-inflammatory; can prevent collagen breakdown & reduce UV damage to skin. It is generally accepted that 5% green tea extract or polyphenols in the 90% range is an effective concentration in skincare products to produce these effects.
3. Isodecyl Neopentanoate. Synthetic ester; Emollient
4. Dicaprylyl Carbonate. Dicaprylyl carbonate is fast-spreading, plant or animal derived emollient that significantly improves the sensory performance of the cosmetic formulation, therefore often used as a silicone oil alternative. It smooths the skin, leaving a velvety sensation without feeling slick or greasy. It also helps other ingredients penetrate skin better.
5. Diisopropyl Adipate. used in skincare as an emollient and plasticizer; a non-oily emollient lubricant with mild drying effects
6. Isobornyl Acrylate. Isobornyl Acrylate is used in skincare and cosmetics as a/an film forming ingredient.
7. Sweet Orange Oil ( Citrus Sinensis Peel Oil ) Sweet orange oil is used in skincare and cosmetics as a fragrance ingredient.
8. grapeseed oil ( Vitis Vinifera (Grape) Seed Oil ) astringent emollient antioxidant oil; absorbs well & is lightweight
9. sunflower oil ( Sunflower Seed Oil ) Occlusive, emollient skin-friendly oil; can improve skin healing, due to linoleic acid, an omega-6 fatty acid. Moisturizing, especially for dry skin & reduces inflammation & repairs skin's barrier. Combined with PEG- esters it's an emulsifier.
10. Octocrylene. Octocrylene is used in skincare and cosmetics as a/an UV absorber, UV filtering ingredient.
11. Octinoxate. A UVB-sunscreen usually combined with other sunscreens
12. Octisalate. chemical sunscreen (primarily UVB filter); emollient & water-resistant properties; oil-soluble & FDA approved; also used as a fragrance ingredient
13. Avobenzone. UVA sunscreen
14. Homosalate. sunscreen that provides UVB protection but its UVA range is very narrow so it's combined with other sunscreens
15. Vitamin C ( Tetrahexyldecyl Ascorbate ) an antioxidant proven to give you photoprotection by preventing oxidation & inflammation; boosts collagen production; can lighten hyperpigmentation if the concentration is high enough; also used as pH adjuster/buffering agent; fragrance ingredient
16. fragrance ( Cananga Odorata Flower Oil ) Fragrance in skin care is like spraying perfume on your face. Smells nice, but potentially irritating and damaging to your skin's acid mantle. Especially if these ingredients are high up on the ingredient list.
17. alcohols ( Alcohol Denat ) antiseptic solvent; dissolves oil; can be irritating & drying; sometimes used as a preservative
18. Lavender. Mainly used for aromatherapy than skincare; mild antimicrobial/anti-inflammatory effects make it useful as part of a preservative system in a product; fragrance components oxidize on skin & can cause irritation
19. mandarin ( Citrus Nobilis ) fragrant skin irritant; no topical benefits
20. menthol ( Peppermint,Spearmint ) Anti-bacterial astringent; fragrance; that cooling feeling is your skin being irritated. Used as a denaturating and deodorizing solution.
21. açaí ( Euterpe Oleracea Fruit Extract ) antioxidant that MAY help regulate skin lipids
